To keep ya’ll on the ‘New Year, New you’ band wagon, we’re sourcing weekly recipe features and snippets of health gold, from our favourite foodie/health guru gals to keep you looking lush, as we attempt to soak up summer’s last rays, before entering full hibernation mode come winter.

To kick start our seriously health-spirational series of recipes, we chat to the gorgeous Nikki Harris of Eastwest Yoga. The queen of hot yoga shares with us her favourite recipe for staying hydrated all day long, no matter how intense the sweat sesh.

Nikki Harris, owner and of Eastwest Yoga New Market and Ponsonby, has over ten years experience in the Yoga biz and is really kicks ass at general health and wellbeing.

Ultimate Hydration Green Juice:

This is a juice recipe that she swears by if she is feeling overheated or dehydrated throughout the day minus the ‘kale a la cliche’.

Cucumber and celery are both alkalising and have  a cooling effect on the body, great if you spend a significant amount of time in the heat (think summer or Bikram Yoga!!)

Celery is also rich in soluble sodium (perfect for rehydration), as well as Vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C. It is also dense in potassium, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorous and essential amino acids.

Cucumber, Celery, Apple and Lemon Juice

  • 1 telegraph cucumber
  • 4 celery stalks
  • 2 small granny smith apples
  • 1/2 lemon

In a single gear juicer add all of the ingredients together and blitz! Add more or less of each ingredient to your own taste and enjoy.
