Rosie, tell us why you decided to start a flower business? What led you to take the floral path?
The short story is, I had enough of the 9 to 5 job and wanted to get back that ‘love of life’. You know, that thing which makes you get up in the morning. My mum has done floristry for a long, long time; something made me decide to follow her footsteps, I suppose.
Tell us about your creative workspace?
You mean the shed in my garden… it’s the perfect little space with plenty of room for my flowers.
What is the coolest thing you’ve been involved with as Rose Tinted so far?
I created some flowers for the Women’s Collective in June; those girls are doing great things. I love being involved with people like them. There are some pretty cool things in the pipeline but I can’t say just yet.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve done in the search for the perfect bloom?
Stealing/borrowing greenery from my neighbours garden because I couldn’t get it from the wholesaler… it required night time covert operations…
If there were a Rose Tinted dream job, what would it be? (AKA doing flowers for a royal wedding, etc.).
Ooooh good question…I’ll get back to you on that.
What’s the Rose Tinted dream? Where do you want to be in five years?
Ideally, I’d love to have a massive studio space with like-minded creative enthusiasts. It would be great to have a space where I can sell flowers, meet clients and chat to other botanical fanatical folk.
If you had to pick one, what’s your all time favourite bloom?
Tough question! At the moment, it’s a King protea. Those guys are amazing, they last for AGES and you don’t need lots of stems for them to look really striking.
If you we’re stuck on a dessert island, what are your three survival essentials?
Floral essentials or the basics like mascara and lip balm.
If you weren’t to be a florist, what else would you do? (Think childhood job wants)
I’d probably work for Disney doing voice acting. No joke, I really wanted to do that (I do a killer Welsh accent).
What advice could you give to other young kiwis looking to pursuing a creative career?
Just go for it. Obviously you need to plan and figure out how much capitol you need but if you’re passionate, there’s no reason not to (spoiler alert, I don’t really know what I’m doing so don’t worry about it).
